Well, as long as you are corrupting the language on purpose, it must be okay. How would you feel if I typed like this:
hihowRE U?! Me is gud wiff the cheezewhiXZX.
Tell me that doesn't hurt your head. At least have enough self-respect to communicate clearly. We are here to assist each other in the practice of keeping creatures alive.
Spelling errors do cause serious problems. But now we've derailed this thread and we're supposed to be talking about Jack dempsey genes, not blue jeans, so let's get back on track, shall we?

I understand there are some responsible breeders around with healthy EBJD's. Check the vendor forum. You could also ask Jeff Rapps if he knows about any that are hardier than the commonly available inbred mess.

spelling errors plz . if i typed jeans or genes or jeeeeeeenz i think they would get the point.. still no reson for sarchasim dont know if i spelt it right but u seem intelligent enough to know what i ment .... and not all people have spell check like u...

I don't use spell check. I don't need spell check. Sometimes I forget the extra 'm' in 'accommodate'. I'm not saying I'm perfect here. But I try to maintain the level of proficiency I've acquired. If you were good at baseball, would you throw bad pitches on purpose? No, you'd make mistakes, but at least you'd strive for some degree of accuracy. But, again, the real point here is JACK DEMPSEYS, so let's be good pitbulls and drop this bone, shall we? Sorry I found the mistake so funny. It was just sooo twisted I had to point it out.

Have you looked into his mouth to be sure it isn't a piece of gravel or something in there? Are there any other symptoms like redness in the gills or fins that would indicate a systemic issue?

hahahahah!
i was having a bad night an u mad me laugh thank u!

I don't think they're "inbred junk" to an owner who has one and cares about it. To each his own but if you don't have something nice to say......you know the drill.
To the OP-if your guy was normal and then this mouth thing popped up suddenly my guess would be an injury. That can happen to any fish (no matter how 'well bred'). If it came on gradually and worsened over time it would indicate genetics.
How's he doing?

Wow, i forgot how shocking some of the spelling and punctuation around here could be! Yes i know mine's not perfect, but come on!!!!! Please do us all a favour and make it easier for us to read (I appologise for that if yours is bad because English is not your first language or you weren't schooled properly (and those reasons only!))

Seriously though, I was eyeing up some EBJDs at the LFS yeasterday, is there anyway to tell at just 1" if they're well bred or likely to be deformed? They all looked ok but when buying one for an office tank that isn't looked after well when i'm not there it needs to be as hardy as possible. I've got nothing against poor fish with deformities but i could imagine it being difficult to keep alive without someone dedicated keeping an eye on it everyday.
