Your description sounds like a possible bacterial infection. I'd go with a maracyn treatment, but I don't know whether you should use maracyn 1 or maracyn 2. We'll have to wait for Lupin or somebody with more experience treating illness. My fish quit getting sick a long time ago! :( :)

I thought the difference between Maracyn and Maracyn 2 was that one was better for fish that don't eat. I believe they're the same with that being the difference. According to Mardel's brochure the swollen body/open sores is bacterial and it calls for Maracyn 2.

The difference is that one is for gram positive and one is for gram negative bacteria. How to apply that, I'm lost.

Many cichlids go on short hunger strikes. If It lasts over a week I would start to worry.

She hasn't stopped eating. It was just the mysis shrimp she didn't want. I feed her pellets right after the shrimp to see if she would eat and she did. I also feed her yesterday because she went poo twice after I cleaned her tank and she ate everything.

I think you are probably right about it being a bacterial infection, I will medicate her with maracyn as soon as I find out witch one I should use.

Thanks for your help. Also do you have any idea what might have caused the infection, and what is your secret for making your fish quit getting sick? I have rarely had my fish get sick but when it happens I get pretty stressed out.

Mardel's brochure that comes with their meds said to treat with Maracyn Two. No other meds were suggested.

I was told that when I do my water changes, that if I made my replacement water a little warmer than the water in the tank, that they'd never get sick. I don't know how true that is but knock on wood, my big dogs haven't been ill other than a bit of ick after introducing the EBJD to the tank.
