So, today as I was looking at my 50 gallon I realized that I only saw two of my 6 clown loaches. They're little 2 inchers that I've been reaising for a while and they're really fat and healthy. I got worried, so I dropped some food in and still didn't see them. Even more concerned, I started moving things around in the tank.
Well, I have a piece of old brick in there, the type that has two rectangular holes running the length of it instead of being a solid piece. It's about 2 inches high, the holes are 5/8" square, and I have a great piece of anubias rooted to it. Turns out THREE of the loaches had wedged themselves in there, along with a big female clown pleco. I was amazed that all the fish had been able to get into that small space. They were all, of course, dead. The third loach ended up being stuck in another piece of wood but was luckily alive.
They must have gotten in there by freaking out after I did a water change completel with gravel vacuuming. I mean, WTF. I've had them get stuck in poorly designed plastic decorations and die (lost 2 big 6 inchers that way), but this is ridiculous and a huge loss. Knowing that they can be so stupid sometimes just makes me so mad.
