Has he tried making a jump out of the hole in the back of the lid? My friend lost her betta that way, woke up one morning and he was on the carpet. Also the reason I have hoods on all my tanks, I'd be devastated if I found my Brucey on the floor..

I think my Betta tank is a 2.5 or 3 gallon - a little bow-front, he's got an albino cory for company. I don't use filtration though, just plants and weekly WCs. A bowl for ANY fish is just plain wrong. Is it that hard to give a fish 2-3 gallons of space?
That happened when I was housesitting for my friend....I moved the glass top aside to feed him and slid it back on.....even though it was still the same size glass top but in a different position than before, he jumped out and died apparently after I left. Plants form cover and keep fish from jumping (except Jaguars) and apparently I left a gap where there was no plants that the glass did not cover.Has he tried making a jump out of the hole in the back of the lid? Now all my tanks have tight fitting hoods specifically to avoid such situations.
I mostly do....6 of my 7 have them, the last one is simply COVERED in plants - arrowheads, pothos, ivy, pineapple plants, spider plants etc. If I had Jags in it they'd be dead, but it has a EB Acara, 2 Earth-eaters, mollies, platys, danios, tiger barbs, guppies and bottom-feeders and in 2 months not one has jumped out.Learning the hard way sucks.. Especially when there's life involved with the learning process..

I working on setting up a similar tank, it's actually a Fluval Chi II. I stripped the junk light/filter box thing off and will use a led light I had from another tank and a Penn Plax Cascade 20 hob filter. The tank will house some least killifish and shrimp, along with plants. Tank measures 10"x10"x 12" high, about 5 gals.
