I went to a lfs today and saw a beat up, scared Xanthic (Gold) Jack Dempsey. He/she (can't tell yet because of bad condition and my lack of knowledge) just looked at me like, "please save me; this huge pike in here is going to kill me!" I asked the lfs guy what it was (knowing already, but I like to see if I can get the "I don't know" = good price result). He said it was an albino jack dempsey and I could have it for five dollars because it was so beat up. Not an albino at all; I was happy to hear this and jumped on the price. I think it will be able to heal the fish up and re-grow all of it fins as they aren't damaged to the base. Do you think this was a good pick-up? Are they rare and would they generally go for more? I have never really seen one around here. He/she is about 5-6" right now. Here are some pics; he/she is getting medicated and starting the healing process right now. My camera sucks so the gold color didn't really come out that well, but you get the idea.

We'll see how he/she looks in a couple of months!

oh so sweet..i am glad you were able to save this beauty.. and we all know it will be healthy and very happy in no time.. and rare it is..never saw one before..Best of luck to you both!

A xanthic/leucistic JD is definitely rare, and definitely worth much more than $5! Great buy! You absolutely HAVE to update us on this guy! :D

It is just a gold color morph, like the ebjd is a morph, so is this one. 5$ is an unreal price though....Nice score ;)

I see them every once in a while, for the same cost as the normal JD's. Definitely less common though.

It appears to be male.

very nice looking pickup...

Wouldn't that be same as Xanthic/leucustic or are they different?

They are different. Xanthic/leucistic are without "all" color genes. Gold/and EBJD's are without "a" color gene not "all"......
