sons 1 gal. aquarium

I'm not going to argue as you don't seem receptive to the good advice you've gotten.
However-the definition of a "grow out" tank is one that the fish can GROW in. There's no way you can put one of the 'monster' fish you talk of in a 1 gal tank and have it grow. There's not enough room for it to grow. Not physically and most definitely not psychologically.

lmfao you just dont get it. i have multiple 2000 gallon ponds and a 500 gallon indoor pond i said repeatedly that size is not a problem. the 1 gallon is for the babies and the information you have been giving would be great for someone trying to keep pacu in a 1 gallon. im talking about keeping bumble bee catfish that only get 6 inches and are currently only an inch and dont move around much. the 1 gallon will get the bumblebees or whatever i put in it big enough that it can deal with monster cichlids in my actual grow out tank. plus it gets my son involved and works as a night light for him (his room has excellant shades so the tank is dark during the day) now that ive cleared all that up, i can get back to talking to people about fish that dont get very big that would work to grow out in a 1 gallon until there big enough to defend themselves in a 20 gal aggressive grow out tank.

Why not just spend the 10 bucks for a 10 haha

the wife has decided that i have spent enough on fish lately and put restrictions on my hobby (obsession in her terms) size wise. i was supposed to stop after the ponds outside then i got a 20 gal. then a 55 now a 500 indoor pond and i was pushing her limits with a 1 gallon for my daughters betta and a 1 gal for my son. hence no 10 gallon for the boy. she has been totally tolerant so i have to respect her wishes and stop while im ahead.

by the way the next tank i buy will not be a 10 gal. im hoping to put in a wall tank over 300 gallons so i have to slow down for now and let the wife calm down a bit and save up some money.

now that you put the right terms, I kinda agree with you.
I'm not married YET, but my bride already told me, no more than ONE tank. she just don't said the VOLUME of it, ahahahhahahah.
Anyway, I understand your point of view. At least for now, I think you can leep them, but it will be better do w/c every 2 days.

Ok, I feel the pain of a married guy over doing it with the hobby... errrr... Obsession... errr... Hobby... yeah thats it Hobby ;)

It's no joke though that keeping water params stable in a 1 gallon is damn near impossible... although with a tank that size you could just put it in the sink and let the tap drip ... all new style of drip system... hmmmmm

You'll get ALOT of flack for this size tank as most of us don't even own a Filter with that small of a capacity... trust me I checked and I know I don't

2 Bumblebees in there is (even at an inch in size) Over stocked, They are carnavores and as such are very messy and create a huge BioLoad...which I'm assuming that you have a Bubblefilter on this tank which means almost daily water changes... not to mention the stress that you are putting on these Cats by being so close together (beleive it or not they are very agressive with eachother when they don't have enough spaces or hiding places to keep them apart)

i know all about filters without that small of a capacity, just one of my biofilters is larger than alot of peoples tanks. i have 2 200 gallon biofilters, thats just the biofiltration. My tap water is extremely stable, i have a $6000 dollar filtration system. the only thing i can do more to my tap water is a reverse osmosis system and i have been contemplating it very heavily. so when i do 50% water changes every other day the tank stays pretty stable. the cats have decent hiding places and will be moved out and replaced within a month.
