My electric catfish is getting bigger and bigger everyday. The last time I got shocked was when it was still 4-5 inches and it hurts a little. Now, it's 9-10 inches. How much volts would this guy have now and how painful would it be if I get shocked while trying to handfeed it?

It'd feel like touching a wall socket probably. Online it says they can emit a burst of at least 600 volts (5 times the power of a standard U.S. wall socket) and also says they can knock a horse off its feet. But, that is only when they feel threatened or are attacking prey. It also says they use less than 10 volts when navigating around. So, about 10 volts is all you'll really feel when handfeeding...unless it feels threatened or thinks your prey. :naughty::grinno:

Edit: Oops, thought you said an electric eel...

I guess electric catfish have the ability to produce up to 350V...so I guess that would be about 3 times that of a standard U.S. wall socket. But again, thats if they feel threatened or are attacking prey.

you can try if ya wanna die! I wouldn't do it.

you wont die, my 9 inch Ecat decided to shock me while i was cleaning the tank, i was on a 2-step step latter.. knocked me off and strait on the the ground arm was tingly for about an hour and my heart was racing, i dont recomend it, but its fun to trick ur friends into it

LOL. an electric eel can kill an adult human though, althought it probably isnt very common.

won't die, but near dead! if the fish is a little bigger or you trick a friend with weak heart, they're done!

There are video's of this on YouTube already...... Type in catfish shock..... Why do you want to hand feed it again? This is like me saying I want to scratch my rays belly and want to know how much the sting will hurt....... Get a rtc hand feed it.
