soon to be, New Stingray owner, questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
depends on the type of ray. i would just look at the biggest they get and then have that tank ready for them before you buy the ray. that way you wont have to worry about upgrading the tank.

hey gshock, I know this is going to sound bad but, is it possible to regulate size based on how much you feed? would this be ethical/feasible?

I suggest you stay away from rays! How could you even consider doing this with not just rays but any fish?

well give him some credit cause he asked first since it is a common myth about most fish.
Is it normal to ask if you can regulate your children's growth and size by the amount of food you feed them? It seems like its very normal when someone asks if they can do that to something other than a human, but then it turns out to be some crazy ethically messed up question when we ask if its possible on a human. Its the same concept, its a living thing.

Apart from the ethical question, I don't think it is possible to regulate the growth of a ray. They either eat well and grow fast or they starve and die. They have a fast metabolic rate.

And personally, I would never do this as it is cruel and completely against why I keep pets in the first place. My pets are companions, not ornaments.

Hmm. I have a 300 and was pondering buying a moto to go with my azuls. Would the ray disturb any possibility of the azuls reproducing? I am planning to buy a 1000 tenecor but it will probable replace the 300 so the ray will be with the azuls for the long term.

Wow, a 1000g tank! Please post pics of that truly monster tank when you get it!

Fire eels get longer than 2ft & an oscar with any Amazonian ray is a bad mix no matter what past experiences with these fish might be.
