from the notorious heron, or the hated egrit? i never thought i would see the day but since its been too cold for my dog to be outside, i came out to my pond with ALL my goldfish and koi gone except for my 3 bigger ones. n they STILL got injured, i can see scales missing at the gill area. SUX! theres now a chicken wire fense over my entire pond now. ugly but keeps my few koi alive.

What kind of dog?

The snow is keeping the Herons, Egrets, and Cormorants in FLA, not Chicagoland....

Sorry for the losses and smarta** comment. Throw a sweater on that dog...

sorry for your loss... egrets leave florida at all.. never saw them anywhere else but florida?

Snowy Egrets def. go North. I get one from time to time that sits on my neighbors garage and looks into my pond. He/she is harmless since he doesn't come down to the water, but I also don't let or encourage him to visit. It is a cool bird, just as long as it stays on the right side of the fence....

thanks i never knew that.... i see all the herons etc... but not egrets.. i will look out for them... i like them too.

I get black birds(15-20) all the time. Even with my pool down they come for the minor water puddles I have where I'm trying to level the ground.

They even go under my Truck in the front and poop all over my driveway... I hate them things

Thats what pellet guns are for.:D

I've been visited 3 times now by a blue heron recently. Each time I see it I go move my heron decoy. I might have to get a owl decoy for the heron breeding season that's coming up soon, usually March through May if I remember correctly. Sorry to hear about your loss, I've been there a few times, I highly recommend something like a koi castle to protect your koi and goldfish. Herons tend to land near the pond and walk the rest of the way to the water so if you can setup a small fishing line fence you might prevent them from getting to your fish if your pond isn't to shallow. Remember if you go the heron decoy route, put them away during the breeding season or your local heron will love you for it.

I don't think I can shoot these Graceful & Charming birds:

Hey, putting a "shield" over your pond... is more effective than shooting birdies with BB guns.

I would in a sec`ond if they were going after my fish.

Too bad my yard is too small for a BB gun, I want to try rice or antifreeze
