I noticed you said battery operated air pumps and lighting?

So can i ask, how do you plan on running your filters and heaters / chillers for this large a tank? i know in Sydney when it gets hot it can reach 40'C and when its cold, it can drop to just a few degrees like 6-7'C...

Also, as some one mentioned, you may need a backup plan for what happens if all of a sudden you can't rent said garage coz of the owners moving or something, or what happens when the tank leaks and damages the property (if the garage is attached to the house some how)...

So yeah, although i agree it sounds like a great idea, just make sure you plan for everything that can happen...

BTW, if you do end up having electricity in the garage, whos going to pay the bills for all the electricity used and how do you calculate it?

Either way, best of luck with your plan...

YouTube search "kid working out fish tank" should be near the top for the lulz, well, not for the fish.

Appreciate the feedback homer. Before I take the garage, I am asking the owners if they own the property themselves, and my add states "Long term ONLY". I guess the issue would be even the same for any rented property, unit, apartment or house..owner may ask you to move out? So I am making it very clear to them that I will need it for a long time basis (until off course I get my own place).

The electricity part I have talked about. And no I will not use battery powered equipment (I was not smart to ask that LOL)... I will use electricity, and it would be around 600 watts I guess? And I would be happy to pay $7 a WEEK to cover that... (I will also need electricity for my stereo and stuff when working out).

$7 a week = $35 a month... my whole apartment electricity bill, with two tanks...and rest of my stuff comes to like $120 or so...

water damage should not be a problem, since nearly all garages in Sydney are pure concrete based, some people have removal carpets?

And the only plan I have, is the same as the apartment I live in...if they tel me to move out..for e.g. after 6 months or so...I would need to find another facility to move too. Please correct me if Im talking dumb in any place :D Thanks mate

^ Well, seems you have most your bases covered from what i can tell... i mean the only real worry would have been the filtration and the heating / cooling, but with the question of electricity out the way, and the owners of the garage willing to let you set it up, i'd say go for it...

I mean heck, if i had the opportunity to rent a space just to setup another tank that was over 200G and it was cheap enough, i'd probably jump on the deal too to be very honest... although living in this town, thats very very unlikely to happen, unless i move to an industrial area...

BTW, which part of Sydney you setting up shop?

oh how i miss the junk food from over there... Ogalo's chicken burger with lemon lime sauce and chicken salt fries...

Damit now i'm hungry and talking to myself...

Still looking for a garage *sigh...getting annoying... there is a place 15 mins away from my house, renting garages... however, another question was...

when I called up for a 8ft length, 3ft width, 2 ft height...the price is VERY EXPENSIVE... would 8x2x2 be VERY different? I want to actually keep oscars and arowanas.

I'm pretty sure Oscars would be okay with the 2ft width... but an aro really should have a min. of 3ft if i'm not more if i'm not mistaken... And to be very honest, i regret not getting a tank with a 3ft width, coz theres a lot of stock i can't get... even with the 6ft length...

So i would say, if you have the option, choose the 3ft width, coz you never know... a few years down the road you may want some other monsters which may not fit in a tank with a 2ft width...

+1 totally agree on the 3ft width.... I was abroad when my bro got my restaurant tank done... Guess what he made it 7' l 30" h and width mere 20".... I know what a waste! And didn't even use the bottom stand for filteration, just filled it with sand and concrete... Well can't blame him he is more of a buisness man than a hobbyst :) so I am left with a huge tank and limited monster fish options... So I am contemplating to building another... :P
3ft will be far better for the aros... And if you're going monster then do it right the first time... ;)
