tell me about large sw tanks

300+
gallons

for large preds ;) sharks

if i have tank and big enuf sump... what do i need?

protine skimmer? and if so how much live rock

Come on Zach you have 7,000 posts and you don't know how to look up your old one? I think you are going to need a lot of live rock for a tank that size.. Possibly 300-400 pounds.. But I'm def not a salt head so I don't know.. A big ass protein skimmer or two and your wet dry should be cool... Man stop with the saltwater posts I don't wanna go to the dark side.. Good luck:headbang2

lol chris...

if i can get what i want ima sell all my freshwater fish and have a DOPE setup
i was told with my big w.d i can get past the l.r and only have a little

I don't really think there are any sharks you can keep in a 350 gallon aquarium for life guy.

focus on setup filtration wise... i got that all worked out..

With a big enough W/D I am sure you could get away with it but I always liked the idea of Liverock being basically a living filter in the tank. I thought it was cool and I have read of it's ability to remove Nitrates... Which would def be tight... Would you be getting rid of the FRT's if you went to the dark side and if so are they already spoken for? and Damn you for making me start to think about doing salt after I already got back into fresh..

Remember, a wet dry is only gravity fed.If you are going to have a shark in the tank you are still going to need some kind of mechanical filtration for the waste the shark is going to put out.

agreed with lots of liverock.. you need to remove nitrates being produced by the monster
that would swim in your would - be tank . A Wet Dry wouldnt be able to do that. A P.Skimmer would help in removing the protein buildup but im sure you would still have nitrates building up.

Well on my wet dry and I'm sure most peoples are set up this way.. I have a coarse filter type pad down insdie the overflow box.. Then before it enters the first compartment of media it passes thru a few layers of a foam type substance that I buy in rolls and just replace every two weeks or so...
