basically I just take care of fish
no its basically I have 100 tanks that are my responsibility... right now I am working someone elses tanks as training and stuff. But you have to do everything u would normally do but to 100 tanks... my general schedule for the day is... come in... change the water of tanks that have been medicated or quarantined... close off the filters of the tanks that are going to be medicated or quarantined that day... then catch and count all the dead fish... i have to feed once an hour approx... then on 2 days a week i do 40% water changes of all the tanks... when a tank is almost empty i move the left over fish into another tank with the same species and then clean the tank and filter... at the end of the day new shipments of fish come in to I have to aclimatize them... but during all this we get orders that need to be prepared so i get a crapload of labelled bags that I then have to fill with certain amounts of fish and bring them to the packaging section... i also spend a good part of the day on betta cuz all the males come package seperately and need to all be cut open seperately and packaged again seperately... which is quite annoying work... In between all this if i find time I do basic maintanance where necesary like vacuming left over food and poop from the tanks and cleaning filters that r a little blocked...
If fish get sick I have to subscribe the needed medication for them, and when they r done with the meds i have to determine if they r in good condition again to be sold... we dont sell any fish that are not in tiptop shape...
its a really interesting job... its A LOT of work and u never really have any time to just do nothing... but it is really rewarding because you get to take care of so many fish. and alot of the times new shipments of fish come from far away and they come in in really bad condition and its just very rewarding if i get them back to normal... Also I work in the older setups so everything is done by hand... the newer and more updated sections have all kinds of fancy systems like automatic water changing systems n stuff... but i dont have that luxury :<
and whoever asked bout the dead fish... they get put into a solution of a disinfectant and then at the end of the day r frozen and then taken to a place where i think they r burned or i dunno wat... they r disposed of in any case... the dead fish room gets kinda stinky though
its right next to the smoking lounge so it kinda gives me a little bit of incentive to quit
