I'm sure this questions been asked before but what are good fish to breed to feed to my jaguar cichlid, and how would i go about accomplish said task.

Thank you.

Easiest for sure is a planted tank full of guppies. Convicts are a little more labor intensive but give you a LOT of fry.

yea if you have a extra 10 gallon tank do convicts.

Yeh i was looking into guppies i have a 10g lying around so i might get started with that googling guppies as we speak lol

Mmmm, probably a 20 gallon would be a better minimum, really. Too easy for the 10g tank to go bad with two four-inch fatties in there.

i wanted to do convicts but they are hard to find around here (I know shocking) or are crazy expensive for a tiny little fish

Guppies are good, just get as many as you can to start with and make sure they're not carrying parasites. Put in a big ball of java moss, some water lettuce and feed decent foods and you'll have clouds of fry after a few weeks. They are way easier than convicts and you can usually find them for free on craigslist in your area.

Why do you want feeders? Not very nutricous for the fish.

But yes, cons are easiest. You still need multiple decent sized tanks and multiple weekly water changes to grow out different generations. Will take months to get to 1" or whatever size you want for feeders.

Convicts breed rapidly, though my female con eats all her babies after about a week.
