2. one of our community sellers/breeders offers time to help and he just questions it like he's the dummy

i've said it before and i'll say it here
his ignorance is not an emergency on my part, but this time on novice questions, i was the 1st to mention 50% wc, and what kind of salt to add, it's up to him to follow. i'm sure the ammonia will be gone from his 75 gal with the 50% wc hopefully he will do it!

beat me too it..............more water changes are needed as mentioned and the tank will not last long as rays grow quick but add another filter as well ac110 or another canister good luck hope the ray pulls through

ps- the salt you need is noniodized salt, just throw a whole shat load in there

Well I would read the directions for amount and for safe sake pre-mix it with water before adding it.

The rest of the info given by others has been great so not much more help there.

Thanks everybody for your help, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought hollywood69 was rude. You only learn to correct mistakes by making them. I will do water changes until it clears up, and I will go buy some freshwater salt as well. Thanks everyone, I hope it works!

theres help and then theres just plain being rude, there is seriously no need for it and i am sure he is well aware of his mistakes after he has been advised on how to solve them.
who wants to take advise from someone ofering pearls of wisdon like this.

if you let your ammonia get that high you should just own oscars

my adive is try to find out what caused the amonia you may need to clean your filters or you may have some left over food stuck somewere

move all the rocks and decor arouind and remove any rubbish laying around then do a big 40% water change as long as the temp doesnt drop to much 50% will be ok as long as their is no big change in PH

then do 25% water changes every other day for the next week

dont try feeding the rays for the next few days unless you see them real active looking for food this will help to cut down the bio load

if you have big problems getting rid of the amonia in the next few days use amolock or prime

You need to do a HUGE water change, do a 75+ & then another the next day, if your filter is seated correctly you will not harm your biofilter.. a 25% water change for an amonia spike is not going to work. You have to watch for a nitrite spike if oyu continue with the small water changes. Clean water & air & you are set

If there is an amonia spike there is going to be a ph drop? Ammo lock & prime will NOT stop amonia

it wont stop it but it will bring it down if you add it when you do the water changes

when ever there has been a water quality problem in my tanks i have used prime and or sea chem stabilizer to detoxify high levels of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate. as well as suggested water changes. i don't know if the sachem products really helped, but i have seem to have good success with this method. i am still learning and would imagine if i am still a hobbyist in the future i will still be learning. good luck
