Does anyone sound proof their stand? My setup is pretty quiet but I just have a bare metal stand. I plan on attaching some black plywood panels on all sides with magnets so they can be easily removed. I was thinking of attaching something to the inside face of the plywood to help deaden the pump a little bit. What have you guys used for this purpose? Cheers!

I cut up a bunch of exercise/yoga mats and velcroed them to the insides of one of my stands. Definitely helped deaden things a bit.

To be honest...that stand with the plywood attached to it is not going to look very attractive. I would suggest:

- Keep your eyes on Craig's List. Free store bought wooden aquarium stands can show up in the free section...or sold well below their retail price.
- Watch some DIY videos on the internet...and build your own nice wooden stand.:)

A metal stand with plywood attached to it is not going to look very attractive. And since you're concerned about noise...this tank is probably located somewhere where appearance is important as well.

I didn't think of that. Those would probably work well. I was thinking something like those styrofoam-like insulation boards... if you know what I mean?

I appreciate the suggestion however this is a 450 gallon tank. It's not something that I would likely find a beautiful stand for, or easily place it on top of... especially now that it's running.

I haven't done it for a fish stand, but cork is used in music room (like in high schools and such) walls to deaden sound.

edit: Come to think of it, I'm not sure I'd use cork. It would absorb the moisture and cause mold issues.

A bit more expensive option but ill bet it works better than the other suggestions.

Those panels work very well in studios.

Indeed it's pricey for the real soundproofing stuff. I sent an email to a cork flooring place. I asked them about it and we'll see what they say. Some of the cork flooring underlay is pretty reasonable and I'm hoping it's cheaper just because it's not "aesthetically pleasing" or quite as thick.
