souped up Eheim 2260 = 2262

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all i can say is that I LOVE EHEIMS!! been using them for 20 plus years and always flawless. Heck my 2034 is 20 yrs old and has never been shut off more than the time to maintain it. I AM IN LOVE WITH MY 2 NEW 2180'S!!.
I understand that not everyone has the same theories on equipment but many like myself always seem to end up with eheim and very rarely go back to anything else regardless of purchase price or set up cost. The main thing we are forgetting here that to each his own ( i guess) lol.

agreed that if u wanna go all out and keep monster u gotta do it right, and its gunna cost your a pretty penny so be prepared, but you'll get your money's worth

Yeah 2180's are special aren't they? I am up to 9 of them now.... simply replacing 2080's with them to reduce the possibility of fish burning themselves.
If you have no budget ...fishkeeping is easy as pie.

There are a couple of online places that carry the Eheim 2262. The only difference between the 2260 and the 2262 is the pump. The 2260 uses Model 1260 pump (635 GPH); the 2262 uses Model 1262 pump (900 GPH). Actually the only pump part that is different is the pump cover or volute.

I made my 2260 into a 2262 by buying the 1262 pump and installing it on top my filter canister. Works great.

I don't know what you guys are smokin' but Eheim isn't run by the Eheim family anymore. You might be hard pressed to find the designers that did the old stuff. You should have been able to see the changes coming when they came out with a HOB filter. Then the Ecco.

MFKers with the large fish, I'd think would eventually realize that the bigger waste products will require a stronger flow to pick it up.

Eheim's not after American dollars anyway, they want the Asian market. They feel Americans are too cheap to buy the best and too stupid to find the best value. For example... Walmart and Petsmart.
OK .. Why are eheims for sale at every petsmart I have been to :irked:

PS I am nothing but happy with my eheim classic it works like an absolute charm its dead silent efficient and I have never seen water so clear. I have had fluval's before (Everything but FX5 ) but the eheim classic seems to have less by pass and more room per filter

the FX5 is crap anyway if someone gave me one i would put it straight on ebay

its just one big sponge filter in more ways than one it uses double the electric as a eheim pro3

why would you want so much flow on a 2260 anyway filtration is also down to amount of time that the water is in contact with the media

and as eheim make the best filters on the market im sure they resurched the 2260 for a long time before they released it

If they spent a lot of time researching it, they sure didnt spend any time checking over their manual before they sold it.
The manual says to put ehfimech at the bottom, substratpro or lava rocks in teh middle, and ehfifix on top. With that setup tons of crap gets stuck in the substratpro and the ehfifix is completely clean, which is a reversal of the roles they're supposed to be playing.

Also, I got on craigslist a 2260 that the guy had put a $100 950gph pond pump on, and for $20 I got another doubletap. Its now exactly what a 2262 is but for a ton cheaper.

(I also got a 125g glass tank with a nice wood finished custom stand and $200 of fish food and water stuff along with the 2260 for a total of $280 from the guy on craigslist lol. steal of the century)

FYI, not all pumps are made the same. While the GPH rating may be similar, the amount of head pressure the pump can take may be dramatically different. For $100, the pump in't going to be nearly as good.
