South African Paludarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks very nice, dont see a reason why it shouldnt work. You should include if possible a few plants and some dirt to give the geckos places to lay their eggs.
I won't have a need for an egg nest, being as I plan on getting two female geckos, but I will have tons of Anubias barteri "nana', attached to the "roots" and Riccia fluitans floating in the water portion, and in the land portion I will have a single Saintpaulia ionantha and several Anubias hastifolia and Anubias congensis attached to the lower potion of the rock wall. THe arboreal section will be covered in Vesicularia dubyana. I would also like to get a few african ferns, (of which I can't think of the scientific names off the top of my head). I plan on having this tank heavily planted.

Here's a few updated pictures. It still looks like crap in there, but it's looking much better at least. Sorry about the horrible pictures, the Iphone camera is the worst.

Scientific Name: Pachydactylus bibroni
Family: Gekkonidae
Adult Size: 4 to 6 inches in total length
Range: Southern Africa
Habitat: Prefers arid environments containing rocky outcroppings with numerous crevices.

Obviously their Natural Habitat does not match your Tank..I would be worried they will get respiratory infections. I keep mine in arid conditions.

Granted I have not kept this species before, but I have only read that they do best in humidity of 60% or greater. I've never heard of them being an dry forest species like their close cousins Pachydactylus turneri. Also, this project has been put on hold for the moment as I need to get my Xenopus laevis tank and my Malawi tank in order and finish my schooling before I can put anymore effort/money into this tank.
