South American Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i like pikes personally- not rare, but they look so streamlined and sleek

Bringing back an old thread but by far one of the most beautiful SA cichlids is the Wild Hoplarchus psittacus wild caught specimens are just stung. Along side the parrots I think Hypselecara temporalis and Krobia sp. xingu 'orange spots

Festaes, nicaraguenses, and gymnos are all very beautiful stunning colors

Everyone know the answer is a festae!!! can you really just go to you lfs and buy a festae? i can ebjd anytime i want..

I agree with Greg although ebjd are stunning fish there becoming very popular and the gene pool for them is terrible at this point

ebjd are not SA guys, jacks are central. but yeah i still think festae gets my first vote but my new little parrot is growing on me, he is a beautiful wild caught specimen and actually has some gorgeous red coloring on his breast area and sometimes all the way along the ventral portion of his belly, he is still really shy as i just got him in today but he already showing some great colors i cant wait to see what he looks like once all settled in :)

The first post says SA/CA even though the title does not. I think that's why people are mentioning CA fish.

I don't think psittacus are all that rare. A lot of the online vendors are keeping them in stock regularly and tank-raised fry are available a lot of the time now. Mine were cheap and easy to track down. They are one of the more colorful SAs, though. They show an amazing blue/green color with vibrant red eyes when they're settled in.

I have never owned either, but Crenicichla marmorata and Crenicichla lenticulata are both stunning fish based on pictures and videos. I wish I had the room to keep some of these beauties.

Discus. Red Curipera, Red Spotted Green, Royal, Browns, Blue Face Hecks. All pure and all stunning.
