South American lungfish with stingrays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice net chris....

i wouldnt risk it. although sal's are more tollerant of tankmates, it only takes one bite to kill a fish. their not like most fish that leave bite marks, a single lungfish bite will remove flesh and bone no problem. that and the fact that rays and lungs are both strictly bottom dwellers, i would consider it a matter of time till a ray is bitten possibly killing it.

the combo would be damn cool though!

Well, I'm probably going to be building a plywood tank for my rays in the next 6 to 12 months, and then the lungfish could have the tank to himself, or maybe with some larger upper-level tankmates.

I don't know, I'm not completely sold on the idea, I was just seeing what others thought or had tried before.

i know of people keeping aul lungs with rays with no problem but not any others... there is only one way to find out

Don't do it, I have had several SAL's over time and they do have a powerful bite and will use it. I had one take a chunk out of a wolffish! Sure the 6" should be fine, but long term, no way. I have had very aggressive ones at the 12-14" size that I would not mix with anything.

Oz lungs are cool, but no other lungs are safe tankmates. Had a 19 incher Oz lung which was safe with anything bigger than 4 inches.

However for the other ungs, the bigger they grow, the more agressive they get.
