picked up one at my lfs a couple weeks ago. i cant find any info on this guy. anybody no anything on him? size? etc.... thanks in advance

I have some info, it's not a gar, it's a characin 
They are nervous, get around a foot. It's called a Boulengerella maculata.

Very cool fish fish, got mine to feed on pellets, but it would go after any fish that seemed small enough to be eaten, which wasn't always the case.
