My GF bought a SA RTC and it only has two (whiskers) on each side.The two closest to the bottom center are missing and all the others I have seen have 3. This fish is about 5" long. Is there different subspecies or something, or just a defect? I can not see any place where the were ripped off either.

yes I do know how big they get and yes I do have a 1500g pond to put it in when it get big enough, so it was not as foolish as one may think. I alreadt have a monster RTC, but that was not the answer to my question...not even close. Please try to stay on the topic

if the wiskers were torn off they will grow back. defects are always possible. i had an rtc and it got some kind of fungus, the wiskers fell off. when it finally recoverd the wiskers eventually grew back. same for other catfish
let me know how it turns out for you. gotta see pics of you big one. i love those rtc's. wish i had room for one.
