Hey Everyone,

I'm considering creating a South American setup for my next project, but before I even start looking at tanks I want to be as informed as possible to create the proper system and appropriately house the right species. Does anyone have any recommendations on comprehensive books about the Central and/or South American fish?

Thanks!

Not sure of any books, but whatever you want to know, just ask! It'll all depend on the tank size for what you can keep...

Ok, so here's the thing... I originally wanted to create a really aggressive tank, definitely involving a green terror and maybe a jack dempsey. They are both beautiful species and so interesting. However, by starting off with those two, I think I'm limiting what I can do with the tank. Due to there aggressive nature, they could potentially be the only two in the tank.

On the other hand a colony of apistogramma and other dwarf cichlids would look amazing. But even then I'm limiting myself because I don't know much more about other species.

I'm not sure even where to begin. Any suggestions?

And you are all right, MFK is an incredible resource. That's why I posted here because I knew I would get the advice I need to create that perfect setup.

Green terror, and jack Dempsey's aren't overly aggressive, but it's all going to depend on tanksize...

do a 8x4x2 tank with group of five ornatums, five atromaculatum, and a festae pair with a bunch of silver dollars as dithers. that would be so epic or you could go bigger and add an umbee to that list. the ultimate south american tank

I'm going to go out a limb here and guess he's not talking about getting a 600+ gal tank here.
