I was thinking of setting up a South American-themed aquarium to house a few monster-sized fish along with some other fish. I was thinking of focusing specifically on fish from Peru, but I will change that if need be. I'll be building this aquarium from scratch, so I'll configure the dimensions specifically for the intended occupants.

Here's what will be going in the aquarium for sure:

  • 1x silver arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)
  • 1x South American lungfish (Lepidosiren paradoxa)
  • 1x oscar (Astronotus occelatus)
  • 3x mono peacock bass (Cichla monoculus)
I was also thinking of adding a bunch of tetras and cory cats. Any ideas on what else to add?

Any ideas for minimum dimensions and decorating the aquarium?

ADDITION: No stingrays will be added to this aquarium; I'd rather not chance myself or someone else getting stung.

first) you need a very big tank
second) the lungfish might be fine for a while and one day randomly kill your other fish
third) tetras and cories will all be eaten

How big of a tank?

jaguar cichlid....native to nicaraugua.

Hmm... I'll think about it if I decide to add some Central American fish; for now I want to try to stick to fish from Peru.

o and dimensions should be like 8 by 3 at least the that aro will get very big

Okay, sounds good for the dimensions. The lungfish should be fine, though; it's the African lungfish that tend to go berserk and kill all of their tankmates. Any ideas on what to add rather than tetras and cory cats? I'd like to have something that schools in there.

silver dollars theres a few different types red hook, wide bar theyre all schooling fish

Silver dollars are pretty cool; I used to have one when I was younger (had to get rid of it due to lack of aquarium space at the time). Any recommendations on an ideal school size?
