South & Central american cichlids VS African cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do you plan on a "community" tank or plan on keeping a single fish / or a single pair

If it were mine, I would look into a pair of Grammodes, Motaguense, freddys, salvinis or loiselles

Nice setup, looks really good, i never thought of having a planted tank with american cichlid but you pulled it of. Thanks for sharing.

not sure why you thought that, but all 3 of my tanks are CA/SA + plants . . . this notion that you can't keep cichlids & plants together really hasn't been true in my experience, although some extra care might be required

the tank is only 48 inches long and you want community, right? if you put in a GT, there isnt much room for anything else as they get quite large and territorial.

i would go with geo's (eartheaters-the orange headed ones are beautiful), cutteri, a few honduran red points, a snail (because they are cool lol), maybe one severum. sand for substrate, dark background and planted with a mix of real and fake plants.. it would look great

I would chose SA/CA over africans any day. Africans don't have any where near as much personality and beauty as SA/CA cichlids. Also, with africans, they all pretty much have the same body shape, and they all act the same way. You can do a fairly nice SA/CA setup with the 110g you got there, maybe a couple of vieja OR some Geos, severums and pictus catfish.
