A friend and I have a fishing/dive trip planned for next week. We'll be hitting up the West Palm Beach area trying to find some hot spots for some non-native species.
I've seen videos of some monster pacu being pulled out of some cannals along with some reports ive read of people snagging some unexpected rtc's!
I was wondering if anyone has ANY info at all on some of the hot spots!

thanks!

One thing about South Florida, there is no shortage of canals. On the eastern side of town most canals are brackish. You might find anything from snapper to cichlids.

Head out west, towards I-75 (Alligator Alley, Sawgrass Expressway), the canals and lakes are freshwater and in these you can find cichlids (mayan, oscars, flag), killfish, livebearers, peacock bass, plecos and turtles.

See this site for a few tips:

Enjoy your visit and hope you get good weather. This coming weekend is forecasted to be perfect.

Regards,
-Gary

I lived in South Florida for 28 years and moved to Tennessee 4 years ago. I went down to visit the family 3 weeks ago. The non-natives took a huge hit. I fished all my old stomping grounds from west palm to deep in Miami. Id say that West Palm and Fort Lauderdale took the biggest hit from what I could see. In Miami I could still find some Peacocks, Midas, Mayans to have some fun with.

Really? I mean i've fished some of my origonal holes in Florida in mid winter while it was pretty chilly and a good amount of non natives were hitting, i dont know why this time around is so different?
Ive been checking the weather the past few weeks and things have seemed to warm up a lot; lets hope for the best! :]

Google "florida january freeze" or similar for news stories...it was a big deal in january. Colder than in the past.
