What's going to make or break your set up is not so much the fish, but just how well you mimic their particular environment. If you want to get general or regional specific, this will take some research and then finding the regional specific fish to keep. It's a matter of finding the "perfect" backdrop for your fish that YOU like. good luck!

If you want to distinguish yourself from the majority a slick amazon biotope would be awsome. Like Hybridtheoryd16 said there are lots of "Amazon" tanks but few of them are true biotopes...and even fewer look good while trying.
