Very interesting. Excuse my ignorance, but are turtles eaten in Cambodia less than Vietnam? The melanism of the head does not surprise me, you see it in a lot of other turtle species, like red eared sliders for instance.

Yes and turtles here are mainly left alone or ignores but it is said if a turtle is left alive longer than 30 years it brings luck which is why they are not eaten but raised and why I have my turtle still.
That guy has probably seen lots. Really beautiful, living history in your hands there, and it is quite good to know how much you take care of that particular turtle. The size itself is just astounding.
I will take a picture as soon as I finish taking water out of my rice fields because their all flooded and I'm afraid my pimas might just escape so I am removing the stuff now and it's flood season here by the way

Its really large, and aparently there are even bigger ones, to me completly unherd off.
there are bigger ones here and i found a southeast asian box turtle going 80cm long and i am considering buying it for 50$ but heres the bottom and i got turtle pee on my camera and poo on my shirt in the process

plastron is 38 cm long and 20 cm wide plus WWF is after me because of this post because they want to take it for 'humanitarian' study but i still dont believe them because they take animals and never give them back and this turtle is very important to my family so how do i make them stop nagging me?
