I've been trying to figure out which cichlid has the southernmost distribution in South America. Anyone have knowledge on this?

Some of the Gymnogeophagus species are found in Uruguay, as well as others I'm not familiar with.

Crenicichla scottii, Crenicichla cf. saxatilis, Crenicichla cf. lepidota, Australoheros scitulus and Gymnogeophagus meridionalis in southernmost Uruguay and central Argentina.

Is the real question, what cichlids are best adapted to cold water or are you simply curious from a geographical stand point? I'd be curious as to which cichlids are best adapted to colder water.

Those that live in the extreme northern and southern (and highest elevation) locations...

That's what I assumed. I'm guessing there are some cichlids at rather high elevations in South America.

Cyanogutattus is northernmost not counting any possible invasive populations elsewhere
