Is the real question, what cichlids are best adapted to cold water or are you simply curious from a geographical stand point? I'd be curious as to which cichlids are best adapted to colder water.
A little of both actually. There was a recent post on cichlids of Puerto Rico and it got me curious about cichlids in Argentina. There wasn't much info to be found easily and I knew someone here would have an answer.
The other part is of more specific interest to me. What South American cichlids live in the coolest water conditions?

Gymnogeophagus and Australoheros are very cold tolerant. I keep Gymnos and A sp red ceibal in a pond in Milwaukee from May thru Oct, air temps dropping into the 40s at night, water into the low 40s. Both species have spawned in the pond.
