sp. 44 thick skin true or a hybrid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fish looks correct in pic #2 but the other pics I am seeing colors that shouldn't be there.

The first two pictures were taken within a few minutes of each other an than the last I don't remember. I bought him from livefishdirect if you know if they are true hope this helps thanks

I think the lighting might really be affecting the colors as far as ID'ing it goes.

Brawler,

I have seen the sp 44's that LFD has on their site, including the video. The fish look correct, actually, they look really good. What bothers me about LFD is what they are selling as Kyoga Flamebacks......and they sure are NOT Kyogas. Looks like some "designer creation hybrid" or they have been pathetically line bred or "juiced"...take your pick.

The sp.44 is a beautiful Vic but they can become extremely aggressive, especially when they are no longer interested in mating.

pantera, thats my boy matt, i just got him into vics! Those pics are from same batch i said i got my sp.44.... hopefully they end up being LEGIT!..... i just picked up what was labeled a zebra obliquidens from a friend of mine of recently opened a pet store... i'm gonna send u pic or two let me know what u think....

Vdawgs,

Yes, that's a ZO alright, nice looking guy. There's a LFS close to my house....a real quality, just sell fish store, with the most beautiful ZO I have ever seen. I'm going to swing by there next week, and I will snap a shot of him for you to see. He's in the display only tank. They sell fish online too. The place is called Neptune Aquatics. The store is full of fish geeks and I have never seen so many spotless, beautifully maintained tanks ever!

To my knowledge, there isn't any difference. Lake Victoria flows into Lake Kyoga and then on to Albert. They are the same species...doubt anyone could prove they were fished out of Lake Kyoga?
