Hi I am new to this forum. a bit of background.
I have been keeping fish on and off for about 20 years including reef planted aquaria and miscellaneous. My Specialty if I have one is taking a select group of fish, creating a visually stunning setting and bringing the animals to peak and robust health. I have finally purchased my first large aquaria (for me)
75 gallons. currently
ph 7.8
temp 74
amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate <10
GH 12
KH 8
hardware
fluval 405 with standard media
Aquaclear 110 with natural spong and charcoal ( Ill talk about the spong in a moment)
fine sand base with rockwork of slate, granite and shale
inhabitants 10 3 medium size (3" or larger) and 7 small so fa no aggression
tank is re-do from 37 tall full cycled so no issues there.
Jack Dempsey 4"
Labidochromis caeruleus x 2 2"
Pseudotropheus demasoni x 1 4"
Melanochromis auratus x1 3"
Pseudotropheus zebra x 1 1"
Labidochromis caeruleus. x 1 1.5"
Pseudotropheus crabro) x2 2
PSEUDOTROPHEUS LOMBARDOI x1 1"
I use natural sponges in the HOB filter 1/2 submerged. it provided 2 benefits.
works like a wet to dry and the natural nooks and crannies are like live rock in that they have small anaerobic areas inside that a very good at eliminating nitrites. in fact the previous list lived for 6 months in a 37 gallon with barley measurable nitrites even with heavy feeding and q/month 20% changes.
Now present to you all the closest I have ever had as a blank slate.
what to do? I am willing to return fish and change decor. my tap water is extremely soft with ph of 6.8. my preference is for personality size and beauty
