Spangled Ocell

So I've had my spangled ocell from snook for 6 months I believe and I can't seem to bring it coloration out? Any ideas? He eats only feeders my others take shrimp but he only takes feeders, I have natural stone substrate and clean water... I don't get it
 
what's the lighting and ph like? I've heard that a lower ph brings out more colour in cichla.
 
Well I have the light that came with my setup? And my ph is nuetral
 
mine did the same thing and then all of a sudden BOOM. bright yellow and green. could be the lighting. i have the lighting that came with my setup and they did they same thing.. ill be getting power compacts next week tho. GL with the coloration.

i cant get my ocells off feeders either.....

are your ocells aggressive eaters? mine are not so its almost impossible to train then cuz they dont attack anything at the top of the water like my orinos
 
Yeah... Mine don't eat for ****? That's so wierd my farm monos attack anything and everything
 
the ocell is about 12 to 13"
 
exactly the same as mine... even with live they arent agro eaters.. they will sit there and slowly follow whatever they are going to eat for a couple seconds... sucks cuz its impossible to wean them off live if they wont attack the top of the watter. mine are 12" and 15" aswell...
 
its only my ocells and from the sounds of it his ocells arent either... weird but they wont even come up to the top of the tank when its feeding time.. they will sit there and if i do throw in a minnow they will just watch it for a couple minutes then attack it..
