That is fascinating. Congratulations on the spawning in captivity. You have given me a lot of insite, and inspiration to persue spawning of another species of pike cichlid.

How big are the parent fish?

Thanks very much! I wish you ALL the luck with your pikes, the hobby needs more pike spawns.

The adult fish appear to be around the six to seven inch mark, but, I haven't measured them.

Congrats! Can't wait to see fry swimming around! And Peanut stole my line :irked:.

Thanks Conner, I can't wait either. :naughty:

I'm hoping that once I can dedicate my 90g tank to my alta pair, that they'll decide to spawn for me. The females beat up the male a couple of times, but with other fish in the tank, he just won't take the initiative. Maybe once they're alone they'll feel a little friskier...

Spent the weekend at the lake, worried the WHOLE time about the fry. . . no problem, looks like they should be free swimming by tomorrow! WOOHOO!

You doubted the ability of your pikes to raise their own young? Tisk tisk! LoL! Glad they are doing superb sir!

HAHAHA Peanut. . . I have been down this road too many times, plus, there are a pair of Festae in there with them, not to mention a C. Scottii and some Hoplo Cats. The odds were not in their favor

They are just starting to shoot off the bottom like popcorn, I think I will siphon a few and make sure I get some :naughty:

pulled about half of the fry tonight, just to see if I can raise em. . . the rest are in the "community", maybe mom and dad can raise em as well?

Pics of fry when I have a free evening :D (and maybe get my mitts on a 105 macro)

awesome!! i wish i had enough tank space to try and spawn a pair of pikes. best of luck to you and i look forward to seeing the progression of them growing.

Got em to free swimming, now they are all over the place. Here is a shot of some of the fry beside dad, sorry for the crap quality, they are at the back of the tank and I could really use a macro :D

So, they will be at the two week stage tomorrow morning, as in the eggs were laid on the 13th in the morning, I don't think they will be big enough to bring to ACA. . . oh well LOL
