What would the offspring be like if I separated one of my female convicts and my male jack dempsey then allowed them to breed? Would the hybrids be fertile?

Unless you are going to have the common sense or courage to destroy all of the offspring that you do not persobnally intend to keep for yourself, and not spread mutant genes into the already muddy hobby gen pool, don't do it.

I dont see anything wrong as long as the man is honest if he sells/rehomes them

My male Dempsey and female convict laid eggs together a few times but they never hatched. I would guess that even if they can spawn, fertility isn’t super common (unless I was the odd one out).
Best picture I have of their nest:

Not my picture, but here’s an example of the hybrid:

The offspring aren’t anything too remarkable - so not really worth producing for profit. The only confirmed pictures I’ve seen appear to be juveniles, so I have no idea what survival rate will look like long term.
Overall, it’s best to keep hybrids out of the market. It’s easy to sell them correctly the first time, but eventually the mixes go to the wrong place or get labeled wrong and just muddy up bloodlines (worse than they already are) over time.

Rather than separating those two fish and creating a bunch of mutts... why don't you use that other tank instead to raise the cloud of convict fry you are already asking about in your other thread?

I am not a fan of hybrids as they’ve done substantial harm to the hobby as a whole, but with that said I certainly won’t ever tell anyone how to enjoy their hobby. So as other members have mentioned yes they can spawn successfully so if it’s something you’d like to try have at it. Just be honest with anyone if they ever leave your possession.

You may be honest in your intentions, but you can’t know that of the strangers that you might sell or give them away too
I mean true but a stranger may also reset the mileage on a car you sold them, cant really stop strangers from being strange i guess lol.

I get where youre coming from tho for sure
