Marc, be patient. Your male still looks very young. I would not lose hope yet. I find that when you keep them separated for a while then let them reunite, it almost always triggers a spawn. Make sure that you do a massive water change right before letting them hookup. I typically drop the temp 1 to 2 degrees mimicking fresh rain. In other words, get rid of that open visiting door.

All this might be a moot point because your eggs may have been fertilized.

from the pictures it looks pretty obvious that the male is a male.
maybe he just needs some more practise...

I'm not saying that the male is female. I was referring to a male festae displaying his bars like a female during a spawn.

i can't really comment because i havent spawned festae before so i don't know why the bars come out.
i'm sure you will be fine later on. keep at it!
