Spawning ID sharks.

can you list all the fish you have in the tank. from the picture, they don't look like pangasius sp.

looks a lot like a rainbow fish for sure, with the big dorsal that seperates in the middle.

unlike any pangasius which has a tall dorsal fin and a small adipose fin. either way, keep up the good work!

I dont think many people have seen really small ID sharks so perhaps this is how they start in fry form and change thier fin shape later in life. Like a pacu, at 1 foot they got real sharp, pointy tail, yet at 3 foot they're soft and wavy.

I still cant tell what they are, but who ever the parents are are still breeding in the tank. I am still finding fry in the tank, and I even found two eggs hanging from the breeders net thats in the tank for when I find the small fry.

Theres no doubt that they're egg scatterers. Set up a webcam near the tank. Then view it as dusk/dawn.

I wish I could, but I dont have a web or video camera..... I am just gonna have to sit an try to watch them every day for like a week or more.

What are the odds of seeing a full tank shot and shots of each of the tank mates?

I have to agree..

Could be a number of the family. But similar to this Melanotaenia duboulayi

Based on the fins those don't look anything like an ID shark, but they have fins exactly like an adult rainbow fish. 8" and 12" sounds way too small for sexual maturity for ID sharks as well.

ya I was beginning to think that too. I just didn't think that the two different species of rainbows that I have would breed. one is a turqoise and the other I don't even know what he is. I am gonna add a pic that I found on the net that looks a lot like him and see if someone can id him.

here it is:

IMO I think ID sharks would attain maturity at 24"-30". But theres always other cases. The fry tend to have the rainbow look. The only real answer will be in the fry, in say... 2-3 months?
