Just thought about all the flopping arowana's that you hear about on this site makes me think, why hasnt anyone designed a special tank made strictly for arowana's or any other type of aquarium escape artists (octopus, etc.) ? On the other hand at least made a lid with a lock or sliding glass, acrylic, etc? It just seems too simple to me not to have another form of tank lid that was more secure and accomodate other fish than your betta's and goldfish. Anyhow, just an idea.....hope this gives people some inspiration for all arowana owners that are DIYers. ;)

it can happen at any time tho. my last fish jumped during feeding time which means the lid was open sorta, but enough to let it jump.

creating a tank specifically for aros wouldn't do much accept for the people who are dedicated at using it. other owners would not even bother

some aros jump n plop the lid open and end up on the ground. but its not as common as them jumping ship with no lid or to many holes. keep ur lid tight, and all holes covered, and u shouldn't need a special escape proof lid lol

At least you were there to put him back in though!!! If he jumped while you were out you probably wouldn't have been so fortunate!

When i'm not around my tank I have chains on the lids lol.
I had the same thing happen as ethnics. The girl was feeding him and he got a little bit too aggressive.

Mine jumped out and died. So I think the hood is a good idea.

What is unreal, is it happens so quick, just like lightning. You can do alot to prevent it for happening. but it's best to prepare for if it does happen. I know my 16"er is hard to grab hold of, I can only imagine how hard a 24 or 30"er would be.

really effin difficult.

Well. if your fish jumps out during feeding, at least you are there. Not a good scenario, but I never heard of anyone losing a fish unless they were gone and came back to a dead, dry fish. I think that it wouldnt be so hard to make a lid with sliding tracks that goe foward and back, oppose to up and down. That would eliminate the upward movement of the jump as a way to escape. Another thing is that, it would not just benifit arowana owners but any owner of escape artist type fish like arowanas, oscar, octopus, etc. Just seems like a good idea, and within range of possiblity. ;)
