"Special Arowana Tank"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aros don't need the momentum that other fish need to jump, silvers and blacks curl their bodies to a S shape and jump, that is how they can focus on food above the water line.
Condensation trays are the, usually plastic, trays that are put on top of the aquarium to trap condensation.

if you guys in the US dont have condensation trays on your tanks no wonder your aros are always jumping out

mine are a bit dirty at the moment and im using acrylic at the moment i move up to glass as the aro gets bigger more weight

if the aro is big you just fill up plasic bottles of water and lay them on top

i have never had a problem with aros jumping you do hear the aro crash into the trays every now and then but as they are so close to the water surface the aro never doese much damage to its self

i have glass trays, but can't they still just push into the glass..sounds like a good idea with the plastic floating bottles.. but mine who is super calm would probably jump if i put them in.. i have a 4x8 board along the top as weight.. congradulations never having an arow jump.. sure would love to learn more.. :D

nah not float the bottles just put them on top of the glass trays

if you need lots of weight then just put double thickness glass trays

as for aros getting a run up to jump as far as i know aros hang at the water surface looking up at food then with one movement jump buy keeping the water level high 1inch away from the trays you are cutting down on the power the aro has when jumping

I like the bottle idea, i personally use plastic bags (the kind fish come in) filled with water to weight down my tops.

the bottles are good as they dont block out any light :D

I think Im going to fill my tank up and leave a one ich space to see how it works with my aro once I get it. These are some good tips that are easily affordable. I was also thinking, maybe small sand bags if your top can handle it? I think I might also custom make a top so that instead of the lid flipping up, its slides so that I can open it a little bit and drop food in. If its only open such a tiny bit, i think it would be harder for the aro to jump out in excitement.
