well here we go again folks, another species of the month:headbang2 I think this species deserves a little more attention than its been givin. The cubans are great specimans with awesome attitude and beautiful color pattens. Over the last year there has been some new blood introduced to the hobby, "Viacjo Criollo" I bought a small group for myself this last summer and ended up selling them off which i wish i wouldnt have done. I noticed that compared to the cubans floating around the hobby that these guys were more aggressive, had a cleaner white to them and grew faster for me. I have seen a couple of posts for them but not too many. This would be a great time to post your Cubans and give them the credit i believe they deserve:)

Unfortunately i dont have any to post:( but i will definitely live thru all of you;) Also please include any info as far as personal experiences with them and any comparisons between the Viacjo and other strains. I know there are some stunning specimans out there and would love to see what everyone has to offer:) And has anyone spawned the Viacjo Criollo and has fry from them?

It feels good to for once be able to contribute to these threads :D Here is my pair, they are both still young (3" TL) but have BIG attitude for their size. They are F0 and brought in by the Cichlid Exchange here in Portland Oregon.

I can't speak for the whole species, but my pair formed at 3" and are by far the strongest bonded pair I have owned. He will even get between me and his girl when I'm cleaning the tank. A few pictures.

Your pair is beautiful! I really need to get down to your place and check out your collection soon!

I still don't understand how people are getting "wild" cubans in the USA? Did he bring them in from someone using another country as a middle man?

According to Jeff Rapps "[Wild Cubans] would be more rare than puros cubanos!"

Since you're friends with him maybe he can give you answers? I've been intrigued on this subject for a while now.

Good point. I really don't care either way but am happy to ask if you like. I could have read that wrong too, I was going off memory. Odds are good if it "came off a plane" it gets called wild around here.. j/k

Seriously though, I'm not willing to discredit anyone so just assume it's F-whatever generation. Considering how little I paid it must have cost next to nothing to bring in so I am probably wrong on the W/C protion. Sorry.

Very nice cubans guys:) as far as the wild cubans go or any of the other wild fish that have been controversial, what is the big deal really. It's not illegal to have them, it's illegal to get them straight from Cuba to US. Even if they were brought in illegally how is anyone to prove it? It's not like anyone is going to admit doin something illegal lol. I personally don't care one way or the other to how it was brought in, as long as whatever it is isn't illegal to own. This topic is very controversial and has been debated alot.
As a breeder I like to know the genetics of my fish to keep genes clean and I do inquire such info during purchases. As I said before I don't mind how the fish got here but I am also a little curious as to wether or not the fish are in fact wild. And if there's any more available;)
I really don't think we'll get any straight answers on who actually collected and when. I really don't mind this discussion carrying on in this thread but please let's keep our cool and also not deter too far from the originality of the thread. Thanks guys
