Species only for 40g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Make sure it’s the red if you get one. The rest are significantly larger.
Other options are the smaller pike cichlids or larger betta species.
What is your plan with your current flowerhorn?
As soon as my 29g is cycled again I’m going to be putting daisy ( my flowerhorn) into the 29g as a grow out until my 40g is cleared out and when we get a 75g I’ll be moving daisy into the 75. Leaving me with a 40g which I’ll be putting in a red wolffish and 29g that I’m going to try to convince my mom to let me put in my room where I currently have daisys plastic tote growout

I personally advocate for more space, I personally wouldn’t keep a red wolf in less than a 4’ x 2’
It’s going to be the only thing in the and most likely going to do something with pvc Under sand as a cave. Do wolffish like to hide. I don’t know anything about them I still got to do my research

Spend a lot of time hiding. They are ambush predators. They like a lot of cover to be comfortable enough to come out. Get lots of floating plants and a very secure lid if you get one.

Trust me my lid isn’t going anywhere. I have a 3 pound rock ontop of the lid because my arowana used to jump when younger and new to the tank. Might do something with a bunch of driftwood

40g breeder would be the bare minimum. Not other tank mates. Bigger is always better.

I was told I could keep one in my 36 gallon, so 40 is better. I opted for puffers for activity, but would recommend the wolf to anyone in a heartbeat.
Based on my short experience with mine ( I sold it recently) I think a 40b would be minimum but fine. The biggest I’ve read about was 9”, but the level of activity I saw in mine leads me to believe a 40b is adequate. It seemed to spend most of its time lurking waiting for food. The only time it was active was when it knew I was about to feed it.

Just be aware the can and will jump through any opening that they can fit., by fit I mean the size of their head. Also splashing water seems to intensify their jumping behavior, including that from a HOB. With mine, I completely sealed the top and raised the water level so the HOB didn’t splash.
