I've got 6 @ 2.5" to 3". Temp stays at about 86, but i just got them yesterday AM and noticed some spots...i've dealt w/ ich several times, just not w/ Cichla, and not this small. What are you feeding? I don't use feeders.

when increasing temps that high, remember to provide plenty of air to the fish as well.

I'm running a massive wet/dry and an air stone in the tank, so 02 should be good

use jungle brand ick guard, cichla are very sensitive to certain meds because they're scaleless, jungle brand with high temps, and a little salt works very well!

what's the highest temp these guys can handle? From what i've read, ich can't survive in temps over 89

Cichla can survive temps that high if there is plenty of oxygen. Mine got ich one time and I bumped the temp up to 89 and it cleared the ich within a few days. I ALWAYS use aquarium salt in all my tanks. Typically the API brand. Dose it to the specified dose on the box and youre good to go. When salting a tank keep in mind you do not need to add salt when topping your water off due to evaporation. Only need to add more salt when you do a water change, according to how much water you removed.
