aside from using filter media from existing setup to kick-off bacterial bloom on your new tank, you may also add water from the existing tank to the new setup. therefore, water composition will 50% old and 50% new (cycled). this way your tank should be ready within a week or two. imo

In additon to all of the hints mentioned above, the surest way to avoid problems is over filtration. Use what you think is necessary and then double it. I have pushed the limits of tank stocking (80+ fish, mostly large ones, in a 180) and over filtration is what does it, more specifically high GPH.
