We have obviously digressed a bit off of the beaten path of discussing string to passive aggressive attacks which is childish and unneccessary. In response to this quote, that is great to treat yourself to a nice real, but I could still never justify spending $500 on a real to catch fish when I could go buy fish and eat for a couple months on that. Just in my opinion, spending that much on a real isn't about treating yourself to something nice. It seems to be having more money than you know what to do with. Financially I need to be a steward with the money I have and fishing is just a hobby not my life. I do take fishing seriously but I take the well being of my family even more seriously so if I can spend $14 dollars on a rod or even buy a decent combo rod/reel for $40 - $60 and catch just as many fish as the guy who spends more than that, why not save a little money. If I had $200 or so to spend I would rather buy multiple rods and reels than just one set up. There is no reason fishing should be taken that seriously. Because it is just fishing, a nice relaxing past time.
