here's another guy that haven't seen that episode of myth busters.

So did Adam or Jamie get bitten by the spider?

I saw a documentary about spiders & what spiders are the most venomous/ dangerous, & they mentioned Daddy Long legs as having very potent venom.
They also said the fangs were much too small to penetrate human skin. If they were able to penetrate our skin, the amout of venom was far to small to effect us.
They only excrete enough to effect their prey/victim.

I hold all types of local spiders without any fear, even if their fangs are large enough to break my skin.
I hate to kill them when they're in my house, so I pick them up & put them outside.
I know they won't bother biting me if I don't make them feel threatened.
If you hold a tarantula it feels much like a kitten when you pet it.
You can also feel the tiny barbs/hooks on it's feet when they're crawling on you.
You don't need a microscope to see these fangs.

The guys on mythbusters are not Arachnologists or Entomologist.
Believe what you want.
I saw that episode & Adam did not try to make the spider feel threatened, he just put his arm into a tube full of spiders. They might've been scared, but they did feel like the lives were in harms way.
I'd like to see him try to annoy a tarantula(s) put it in a tube & stick his arm in it & see if it bill bite him. Even better try a tube full of black widows. LOL
There's a huge difference in spiders that are hesitant to bite, & spiders that are willing to bite.

In fish terms...
My lil cons have teeth & nip me but it doesn't bother me.
My RD who is 10" & has teeth too, I don't like when he bites me...

i've seen the mythbusters episode, tyvm.
there is also scientific documentation if you look around on the subject.
you ever felt a bite from a daddy long legs? they don't have the strength to bite.
cellar spiders used in mythbusters do bite and do have venom. it won't kill a person, but the venom is potent to smaller creatures.
but you're damned right they have venom.

it all depends on what species you are referring to as a "daddy long legs" as there is more than 1 species that shares the namesake.

my post was not about "do not feed to fish", they're perfectly fine to feed to fish.

lmao, i laughed at that part.

apparently TV only shows the full truth :screwy:

you do realize that half of their tests are termed plausible, and like red devil horde said, they weren't really making the spiders feel threatened.

Great point to add!
I was thinking about that after I posted my last post.
Cellar spiders look quite similar to daddy long legs & most of the time get confused.
In the mythbuster episode they did use cellar spiders, but Adam kept calling them "Daddy long legs".
That's why I went with it.

Around here some people call leather jackets(Looks like a giant mosquito) daddy long legs too.

Then theres also an aracnid(but not a spider) called a "harvestman", moves like a spider but minus the abdomen. It's often called a daddy long legs too.

I'm no expert, I just go with what I hear... :)
I just happen to like spiders, but not as much as I like my "Devils". :grinno:
