This guy came into a local fish store with one other as a gold spilo months ago, the other fish looks more typical serrasalmus with a concave head although smaller with the same colouration as this guy...

I done some googling in the carpark and am I right in believing this is still a spilo/Mac even tho he exhibits a pygo shape, many take on a pygo shape as they grow don't they?

I asked the shop boy if the £90 ($110) asking price had any room as they had been there so long, he continued to tell me that this one I bought I a red belly and went to get a price!?
So basically I've paid £60, either an over priced red belly (maybe ternetzi I thought) or I've got a spilo cheap?

Either way he is epic, I've shifted some fish about temporarily until I can free up the 90g for him. The tank he is in was just cleaned Inc the internal filter which is why the tank looks a mess ATM so excuse that.

He was so interactive in the store, finger chasing and biting at me I had to have him:-)

Gotta think off a name now.

Ya think? The face shape is about halfway between pygo and Serra to me. I'm happy either way as he is gorgeous.
Hopefully he retains his beast mode from the shop, he must seriously be the most interactive fish I've ever seen:-)
Even if he is a ternetzi I think I've had a deal at £60 (75-80usd) for a 5+" fish right?

Nice pickup though. I would love to have a shoal, but they're illegal here.

My opinion is its a ternz, but I haven't actually kept any. I just know guys with them and have a general interest. The concave is more pronounced on the spilo.

Maybe some of the piranha guys will chime in and confirm

After endlessly looking at Google images I'm leaning ternetzi too I think, here are my examples....
