Spinning vs. Baitcast

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought a baitcaster towards the end of last year. I'm still not that good with it, but I bring it with me to mess with. I'll put out a minnow on my spin caster, then practice my baitcasting. Best of both worlds.

I saw that Quantum at the store the other day and was actually considering it. I know both Quantum and Shimano are quality but does either one have an advantage over the other. Thanks for the heads up 303.

Ive never owned a shimano personally, but that quantum i got is by far the best reel Ive bought since i started buying my own gear. Ive had it 2 1/2 years and still preforms like new. Im sure any shimano would be just as good

i have that quantum optix combo, it is a definitely a decent little setup, but if i was buying just a reel i would go shimano. the optix is a good deal because the rod it comes with is also pretty good

Hmmm, i only bought the reel. I didnt see the full setup.

i got the combo @ dick's they may not have had it at wally world

i prefer my baitcasters to spinning reels for everything except my ultralight bait setup. Regardless be sure to pick a quality brand.

I came to this forum today to ask the same thing since my 18-20 year old Daiwa might be going out, so thanks to the op and great responders for saving me the trouble of starting a new thread.

Spinning are easier to use but baitfast and spincast are completely different.spincast are the biggest peices of trash ive ever held in my hand, an insult to my rod... Theyre that bad. I would suggest a baitcast or spinning but you will probably have trouble with the baitcast until you learn how to do it
