The last few night when all the lights go off my bass come to the top of the tank and swim as hard as can at the glass and splash at the surface. Does anyone's bass do this as well. Or know why they are doing it it's kinda annoying coz the tank is in my room.

Not sure why they do that. I know my Oscars will go kinda bonkers at night too and splash me sometimes. It's a heck of a way to get woken up at 2 in the morning!!! You may try a moonlight or some dim blue lights and see if that helps. Some fish just need a night light.

I made a thread about this. Didn't have a lot of good input really. But the thread was "are your fish afraid of the dark."

This was good info I got from coonass

Most bony fish have a fixed pupil which does not contract or dilate to adjust the amount of light that enters the eye. Fish instead adjust to changes in light intensity by moving the rods and cones within the retina - a process that happens relatively slowly when compared to the action of the pupil. When the light intensity in the aquarium changes abruptly the fish are temporarily blinded, hence the stressed behavior.

Are your Fish Afraid of the Dark???

In my case, it has to do with a combination of lights. When lights in the tank are off and certain lights in the room are on, my fish can see his reflection in the glass and attempts to fight the new guy. Ive found a few different light combos in my house produce the effect. The display makes for some great photography though

If all the lights are off and this cant be the case, it is simply possible that it is being spooked by another fish.

Have you added new tank mates recently? I just got a green Texas from a friend and my baby Orino is now doing that

BTW... I leave my lights on 24-7. Don't let anyone tell you this is unacceptable. My bass are spawning constantly.

when the light out side the tank is brighter than the light inside the tank or no light inside the tank they can see out side the tank, the mirror effect they live with is removed, this is because the light is coming in through the glass rather than bouncing back from the inside. run dimmer light inside the tank if you can so they get use to seeing everything outside the tank, or when lights out in the tank, lights out in the room. or, just live with it.
