Whats the largest tank you would have a spongefilter in? Could I use just a sponge filter and nothing else? I've seen sponge filters with powerheads and with air bublers, which one would be better? Are they hard to make?

Thanks

I do have a 110 growout with mixed fish that has 2 big sponge filters. (that's it)
I will say that I am using a stronger than normal air pump though. Dont expect a LFS pump to do it.

I like them because they're cheap, excellent biofilters, fairly easy to maintain, and they dont take up much room so they're good to throw in tanks to skip the cycling process.

Additionally, I like to be different lol.

I use 20gal rated sponge filters in my fry tanks, 100gal rated sponges in my tanks (along with primary filter systems), and 400gal rated giant sponge filters in my 450gal grow-out bins (along with the bio-reactor filter).

Where do you get the materials for the huge sponge filters Oddball?

I don't build these. I got them from aquaticeco.com. They ran about $30/each

Thank you:)

SO if you use these sponge filters, you dont have to cycle the tank?

ANd can some one show me a diy way to make a sponge filter? I plan on putting them in some tanks.
