you still have to cycle the tank
rally just keeps sponges in his tanks so when he is ready to set up a new one he then drops a cycled sponge in and he is good to go

Ooo lol. I'm thinking about ordering some of those huge sponges that are 37.00$ and having them in each of my tanks.

Thats a good idea, especially if you ever need to set up another tank or power fails and the wet/dry because a dry/dry.

SO if you use these sponge filters, you dont have to cycle the tank?

ANd can some one show me a diy way to make a sponge filter? I plan on putting them in some tanks.

I don't know how you came up with that. Where did anyone say you don't have to cycle a tank if it has sponge filters? Every tank/biofilter requires cycling. On new tanks, I use a PRE-CYCLED sponge filter that I run in some of my sumps and fry tanks. But, the tank still needs to go through a full cycle before fish are added.

I read rallys thing wrong sorry, So any diy plans out their that explaine it well or should I start searching google?

I've found it's cheaper to buy them from a seller on aquabid (Regina111). Chris buys the materials in bulk discounts and builds/sells over 1000 filters a month. And, at $4 each, I can't build them for less. Chris makes them with a flat solid bottom so fry can't swim under the filter and get trapped. The center pipes are also slotted instead of just having a few holes drilled into the PVC. So, there's increased water flow. And, Chris guarantees them. Although, for that price, I wouldn't complain if one fell apart. I'm running 48 of these filters and never had one fall apart. Their size would put them in the 55-75 gal rating. But, I also use them in all my 20gal fry tanks.

i'm only using 2 x 2400 ltr and hr powerheads with sponge for my 180 atm, and it seems to be doin the job nicely, however with my umbee being as messy as he is, i think i might have to go buy a nice big fluval...
