They'll run on standard deep-tank diaphragm air pumps. I have a main blower (1 HP) that'll run about 150 of these filters. The 3/4" standpipe will also seat a powerhead (I have one holding a powerhead to a UV sterilizer).

I still don't like them for display tanks. (IMO) they look bad.
How about the fluidized sand bed filters, the rainbow lifeguard900 is a low flow, high efficiency filter rated for up to 900g tanks and runs $84-$100.
I think bigals has them even cheaper but can't find my pricelist.

Funny, I thought we were discussing function and not aesthetics. Though, I'm sure someone will eventually design and sell sponge filters that look like large rocks or ornaments.

That would be pretty cool, Have like a sponge filter but make it a big rock lol. THanks guys for all the help.

Rally I'm not sure yet on what air pump I will run but either a very large normal bubler or a power head

Let's see...hmmm...$4 per filter and I can run 150 of them on a single blower. Or, $80+ for a single filter requiring a dedicated pump?
